WHAT IS CERTIFIED TRANSLATION?

Certified translation is a translation officially recognized or approved by a governing body or a certifying authority. In Malaysia, certified translation serves as a valid legal document attesting to the accuracy, validity and completeness of the translation and is typically used for official purposes, such as immigration, legal, and governmental processes.

Certified translations are performed by professional translators duly trained and certified by an official institution, such as the Persatuan Penterjemah Malaysia / Malaysian Translators Association [MTA] or Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia [ITBM] / Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books. As a lifetime member of MTA, Le Reve Translation takes pride and enjoys the advantage to be part of a reputable organisation governing and overseeing the translation certification of our clients’ documents.

In some cases, certified translations require notarization which involves the translation being attested, signed and stamped by a certified notary public. This salient process adds another layer of legal validation and authenticity to the translation and Le Reve Translation is willing and ever ready to assist our clients with this process diligently.

Certified translation is often required for official documents, such as:
  •     Passport
  •     Birth Certificate
  •      Identification Card
  •      Immigration papers
  •      Court documentation
  •      Police report
  •       Marriage Certificate
  •      Legal documentation
  •      Medical documentation

These documents in their translated versions, must be accurately understood and accepted by the relevant authorities.

ATTESTATION BY MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS (MOFA)

Attestation of documents is the process of authenticating or verifying the authenticity of a document for official or legal use. In the context of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Malaysia, attestation refers to the process of having a document officially recognized and authenticated by MOFA for any identified external use outside of the country of origin.

There are several steps to receive MOFA attestation, to with:

Obtaining the original document: The first step is to obtain the original document that needs to be attested such as a birth certificate, degree certificate, or any other official documents.

Obtaining a certificate of authenticity: The next step is to obtain a certificate of authenticity from the issuing authority, such as a government agency or educational institution. This certificate confirms that the document is genuine and issued by the recognized issuing authority.

Attestation by a Notary Public: The document will then be attested and notarized by a licensed Notary Public, who will verify its authenticity and stamp a notary seal on the document.

Attestation by MOFA: The final step is to have the document attested by the MOFA. The MOFA will verify the authenticity of the document and place its seal and stamp on the document, certifying it for use outside of the country of origin.

It is important to note that the exact process for attestation of documents may vary depending on the country, and it is best to check with the relevant
authorities for specific requirements and procedures.
